It’s free to publish on Summer. Then you choose how you earn: players can tip you, you can set a price for your game, or you can sell items for Sparks in your own item shop. You set all of this up for your game in Studio and on summer.games, not in your game’s code. Three ways to earn: publish free and players can tip you; set a price and Summer takes 30% of each sale; sell items for Sparks and earn 70% of the Sparks players spend in your game. What your players get

  • A paid game: your game’s page shows the price, with any discount. A player buys it once and it’s in their library. Players who got your game while it was free keep it.
  • Tips: a Tip button on your game’s page. The player picks an amount in Sparks and keeps a supporter badge in their inventory. The page tells them “Tips are paid in Sparks. The creator earns 70% of the Sparks you spend.”
  • Featured items: up to six of your published items shown on your game’s page, next to the full item shop.

Pick your setup

Set a price

In Studio, open your game’s store page. Under Payouts, choose Get paid to set up the Stripe account your sales are paid out to. Then under Price, switch from Free to Paid and enter a price in US dollars, from 0.50to0.50 to 1,000. Summer takes 30% of each sale. Until your payouts are set up, your game stays free, so players never see a price they can’t pay. You can also add a Discount: a percentage off, from 1% to 90%, for up to 90 days. Only players who bought a paid game can download it and join its matches.

Accept tips

A tip is an item you create to say thank you: a supporter badge that players buy with Sparks and keep. Create it in your game’s catalog in Studio, tag it support-item, and make it an item that can’t be traded, gifted or used up. Give it a Sparks price; 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 Sparks match about 2,2, 5, 10and10 and 20. Once it’s published, a Tip button appears on your game’s page on summer.games, showing up to four of your tips, cheapest first. When you talk about tips in your game or on your page, call them tips, never gifts or donations. Your game can thank the players who tipped, because the supporter badge is in their inventory like any other item: On the game's page, the player presses Tip, picks a tip in Sparks such as 500, and keeps a supporter badge; the creator earns 70% of the Sparks spent. Thank my supporters in the game. Players who tipped get a visible thank-you.

Feature your items

Choose up to six of your published items to feature on your game’s page. They appear in the order you pick, and the full item shop stays one tap away. Items you withdraw drop off the page automatically. See Sell items for Sparks for creating and selling items.

Testing it on your machine

Prices and tips live on your game’s page, so there’s nothing to run locally for them. To test a supporter thank-you, give a test player the badge item in your Local Play test users file; your game then sees it like any other owned item. When you’re ready to go live, see Publish your game.
