# Play with Friends from Claude or ChatGPT

> Connect the Summer Games MCP to Claude or ChatGPT. Ask who of your friends is online, text them, invite them to a game, and hear when they join. Rivals, in-chat cards and desktop navigation too.

Connect your Summer account to Claude or ChatGPT. Then ask, in your own words:

* "Who of my friends is online?"
* "Text my friends and ask who wants to play."
* "Invite them to Star Weavers."
* "Tell me when Ana accepts."
* "Send Leo a rival request."
* "Take me to the store page for Star Weavers."

The AI app does it as you. It uses the Summer Games MCP at this address:

```text theme={null}
https://mcp.summer.games/mcp
```

## Connect Claude

You add Summer once, on the web or in Claude Desktop. It then works in every Claude app with the same Claude account, the phone too.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the connector">
    On [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) or in Claude Desktop, open **Settings → Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the address">
    Name it **Summer** and paste `https://mcp.summer.games/mcp`. Choose **Add**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in on summer.games">
    Claude opens summer.games. Sign in to your Summer account, check the app name and the site it sends you back to, and choose **Allow**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use it in a chat">
    In a new chat, ask "Who of my friends is online?". If Claude does not use Summer, turn the connector on with **+ → Connectors**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**On your phone:** open the Claude app on iPhone or Android, signed in to the same Claude account. Summer is already there. You cannot add a custom connector in the phone app itself, so add it on the web or desktop first.

Your Claude plan must allow custom connectors. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector for the organization first, then each member connects.

## Connect ChatGPT

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn on developer mode">
    On [chatgpt.com](https://chatgpt.com), ChatGPT asks you to turn on developer mode before you add a custom MCP server. Where this setting lives, and which plans have it, changes. Check OpenAI's help if you do not see it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Summer">
    Add a custom MCP server (connector) with the address `https://mcp.summer.games/mcp` and OAuth sign-in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in on summer.games">
    ChatGPT opens summer.games. Sign in, check the app name and the site, and choose **Allow**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**On your phone:** we have not tested the ChatGPT phone app with Summer yet. Use chatgpt.com.

## Connect Claude Code or another app

Claude Code:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http summer https://mcp.summer.games/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp` in Claude Code and choose **summer** to sign in.

Any other AI app: add a remote MCP server with the address above. The app must support OAuth sign-in. It registers itself with Summer when you connect.

## What you choose when you connect

The summer.games page shows what the app asks for:

| Permission | The app may |
| - | - |
| **Read** | See your profile, settings, friends and whether they are online or playing, friend requests, messages, notifications, party and rivals |
| **Act** | Send friend requests, messages, party invites and rival requests, answer them, change your profile and settings, and open pages in your Summer Games desktop app, as you |

Act always includes read. Your AI app asks you before it sends or changes anything. Read what it is about to send before you say yes.

## Things to ask

| Ask | What happens |
| - | - |
| "Who of my friends is online?" | It lists your friends who are online or playing, and what they play. |
| "Text my friends and ask who wants to play." | It sends a message to each friend you pick. Messages go only to friends. |
| "What did Ben say?" | It reads your messages with Ben, newest first. |
| "I want to play Star Weavers with Ana and Ben." | It finds the Game, starts a party if you are not in one, sets the party's Game (if you lead the party), and invites them. They get the invite in their Summer inbox. |
| "Did Ana accept my invite yet?" | It reads your party: who joined, who has not answered, and who is in the Game. |
| "Who of my friends is playing right now?" | It lists only the friends who are playing. |
| "Tell my party I'm ready." | It posts in your party chat. |
| "Accept Ben's party invite." | It joins Ben's party for you. |
| "Send @leo a friend request." | It finds the player by their exact `@handle` or friend code. It cannot search by name. |
| "Change my display name to Mia." | It changes your display name. Your `@handle` cannot change. |
| "What did I miss on Summer?" | It reads your Summer inbox, newest first. |
| "Turn off friend request pushes." | It changes only the settings you name: display name, language, region, whether friends see what you play, and pushes. |
| "Send Leo a rival request for Patchwork." | It asks Leo to be your rival. See [Rivals](#rivals). |
| "Take me to the store page for Star Weavers." | It opens the page in the latest Summer Games desktop app. See [Move the desktop app](#move-the-desktop-app). |
| "Find co-op survival games." | It searches Summer DB, a public catalog of games, with ratings, reviews and player counts. |

See every tool on [Summer Games MCP tools](/mcp/summer-games-tools).

## Cards in the chat

Claude and ChatGPT show Summer answers as cards, right in the chat:

| Card | Shows | Button |
| - | - | - |
| **Friends** | Your friends, who is online and what they play | Invite |
| **Party** | Your party's Game, who joined and who is invited | Play |
| **Messages** | Your messages with one friend | |
| **Game** | A Game you asked about, with its summer.games page | |
| **Rival** | You and a rival, compared in one Game | |

The party card stays live while it is on screen. When a friend joins, it posts a short note to the chat, "A friend joined my Summer party. The game is ready. Check my party.", and the AI app tells you who joined. **Play** opens your party on summer.games.

An app that does not show cards gives you the same answer as text. Every answer also carries summer.games links to the Games, players, chats, parties and invites it names.

## Hear when a friend accepts

You do not have to keep asking. Summer tells you in the way your app supports:

* **Claude:** the party card shows the join while the chat is open, as above.
* **ChatGPT:** ask "Tell me when Ana accepts my invite." ChatGPT watches for it and tells you when it happens. It also works for friend requests, messages and rival requests.
* **Any app:** the next question you ask ("did Ana accept?") reads the latest state.

Event news carries names and a link, never message text. Your app reads the messages with a tool, so you see them in full.

## Rivals

A rival is a player you both agreed to compete with. It works like a friend request: one player sends a rival request, the other accepts or declines. Player against player only. A rival does not have to be your friend.

* "Send Leo a rival request for Patchwork."
* "Who are my rivals?"
* "Am I ahead of Leo in Patchwork?" compares your playtime, when you last played, and your places in the Game's rankings.
* "End my rivalry with Leo."

Only you and your rival see the comparison. A block ends the rivalry.

## Move the desktop app

In the latest Summer Games desktop app, open and signed in on your computer, your AI app can bring the app to the front on a page: a Game's store page, your library, downloads, friends, a player's profile, your party, messages, inbox, Passport, Sparks or settings.

* "Take me to the store page for Star Weavers."
* "Open my messages with Ana in the Summer app."

It only shows the page. It never presses a button there, and buying stays with you in the app. When the desktop app is not running, you get the summer.games link instead. If nothing opens, update the desktop app.

## Coming soon

* **Phone alerts.** The Summer Games app on iPhone and Android will show an alert for new messages, party invites, and when a friend joins your party. Until then, your friends see invites and messages in their Summer inbox.

## Privacy and control

* **It acts as you.** Messages, friend requests and invites it sends look exactly like the ones you send yourself. Nobody is told an AI app sent them. The [Community Standards](https://summer.games/community-standards) apply to them as they do to you.
* **The same rules apply.** Messages go only to friends. Blocks apply. An app can use at most half of your account's limits, so your Summer apps keep working.
* **The AI app sees what it reads.** When it reads your friends, messages or party, that information goes to the AI app and the company that runs it.
* **Players under 13** have no friends, messages or parties on Summer, so a connected app cannot use them on those accounts.
* **Only allow apps you trust.** Anyone can give an app any name. The sign-in page shows the site the app sends you back to. Check it.

### Disconnect

Open [Settings → Connected apps](https://summer.games/settings#connected-apps) on summer.games. It lists every app you connected, when you connected it and when it was last used. Choose **Disconnect**, and the app stops at its next request.

If an app says Summer signed it out, or you have not used it for 30 days, connect it again.

## What it cannot do

These stay in the Summer apps, where you do them yourself:

* Buy anything, or buy or spend Sparks.
* Close or delete your account.
* Block, unblock or report players.
* Change family or parent settings.
* See or change your other connected apps.
* Play a game for you, join a queue, or do anything inside a running game.
