# Summer Apps

> Ask any agent for a tool your team is missing, and it builds a real app inside Summer Studio: shared with your team, live on your assets and game data.

<Warning>
  **Draft.** Summer Apps is in a closed test. This page goes live after the end-to-end test on production.
</Warning>

A **Summer App** is a tool for your game team that lives inside Summer Studio. Your agent builds it in minutes; your whole team uses it.

Examples: a weapon balance table, an item and quest database, a loot table editor, a level progress tracker, a grid to pick the best of three sound effects, a live-ops view of your games. See [Apps for game teams](/apps/game-teams/weapon-balance-table).

## What an app is

| | |
| - | - |
| **Shared** | An app belongs to a team (workspace). Everyone in the team can open it and sees the same data, live. |
| **Real code** | An app is a small web page (HTML, JS, CSS) built with the Summer SDK and UI kit, or a quick JSON layout. |
| **Live on your work** | Apps read and change your Summer assets, generate new ones and read your game analytics. Access to your open project in Summer Engine comes with the next Summer Engine update. |
| **For agents too** | An app's data is an API your agent reads and writes, and an app can give your agent new tools. See [Agents and apps](/apps/agents). |
| **Versioned** | Every publish is a new version. **Versions** on the app page shows them; **Make live** goes back to one. |
| **Safe** | Apps run sandboxed, with only the permissions they declare. See [Security](/apps/security). |

## Where apps live

* **Studio > Apps** lists your team's apps in **Pinned**, **Scratch**, **Team apps** and **Archived**. **Starter apps** adds ready-made ones to your team: Pick one, Asset tracker, Balance table and Live ops.
* An app opens at `summerengine.com/studio/apps/<appId>`.
* New apps start in **Scratch**. Choose **Keep** in the app's menu to move it to your team's apps. A Scratch app nobody opens for 14 days is archived. You can restore it for 30 more days.
* **Pin to sidebar** puts an app in your Studio sidebar.
* In Summer Engine, apps open in the Studio tab. Docking an app next to your scene comes with the next Summer Engine update. See [Engine and docks](/apps/engine-and-docks).

## How to get one

Ask your agent: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Claude or ChatGPT with the Summer Engine MCP. Or describe it to Summer in Studio chat: choose **Build a new app** in **Studio > Apps**.

<Prompt description="**Build a team tool.** Your agent builds a Summer App and opens it in your Studio tab.">
  Build us a Summer App: a weapon balance table with damage, attack speed and DPS
  per weapon, kept in the app's shared data, and a DPS chart that flags weapons over
  60 DPS. Read summer\_app\_guide first, and look at the app with summer\_app\_screenshot
  before you tell me it is done.
</Prompt>

Next: [Build your first app](/apps/build-your-first-app).
